Tras la goleada encajada en el Optus Stadium de Perth ante los Wallabies por 47-26 del pasado 10 de agosto, los All Blacks estaban ansiosos por ganar en el templo del Eden Park  en Auckland, donde no pierden desde 1994 y fue el determinante  36-0 (17-0) sobre los Wallabies a coronar la conquista de la Bledisloe Cup  con actuación del año para  el apertura Richie Mo'unga con 14 puntos (1 try, 1 penal y 3 conversiones)  pero con la mala noticias de lesionarse en el hombro derecho. Luego el entrenador Steve Hansen (100º partidos, con 87 triunfos, 9 derrotas y 4 empates), dijo que ‘’está bien Ricchie’’. Además destacó las buenas actuaciones de los wingers Sevu Reece y George Bridge con sendos tries y el último enviando al medio scrum Aaron Smith a una volada de try. Y brilló la estrella:  el centro Sonny Bill Williams con excelente try y defensa superlativa. Los  All Blacks han conservado la Copa Bledisloe en la  fortaleza Eden Park bajo la lluvia , repitiendo la hazaña de dominar a los Wallabies con tries de alta performance del wing  Reece Hodge y del apertura Richie Mo'unga para recoger el balón y correr 40 metros.
