Quedará grabado en las retinas de los memoriosos el try del pilar derecho tucumano Thomas Gallo que arrancando desde un ruck , protagonizó una galopada de 60 metros para llegar a la tierra prometida y marcar un try bajo los palos, no obstante el tackle postrero del full back francés Alexandre de Nardi. Allí los Pumitas tomaron conciencia de que se remontó la pendiente y de que eran semifinalistas. Hubo frenesí, una defensa que iba muy arriba para ahogar a los campeones mundiales salientes, y con esa determinación más las destrezas individuales, los Pumitas se proclamaron semifinalistas del XII Campeonato Mundial M20 ganando a Les Bleuets de Francia 47-26 (34-7), en el Hipódromo de Rosario, donde el lunes enfrentarán a las 13:00 hrs a los Wallabies Juniors australianos. En la segunda semifinal  a las 15:30 se medirán Júniors Springboks y Les Petis Bleus franceses. La performance de  los  tucumanos Thomas Gallo y Mateo Carreras y la fuerza descomunal del centro y capitán sanjuanino Juan Pablo Castro, la bandera del equipo, que fue una fiel expresión de coraje defensivo con su ´´tackling´´  demoledor y su  try, el quinto de la producción iniciada  en la espectacular corrida de 60 metros de Thomas Gallo en gesto de un ´´sprinter´´, más que de un tres cuartos ´´ligerito´´. Mientras tanto les Bleuets quedaron aturdidos ante tanto frenesí, que no estaba en sus planes y cometió el error de tomas de decisiones apresuradas que facilitó la defensa bien arriba de los Pumitas que complicaron cada una de las opciones de ataque del campeón saliente, que no obstante la derrota contundente, se clasificó como mejor segundo y enfrentará a los gallardos Júniors Springboks. Francia logró en la levantada del segundo tiempo el bonus ofensivo y le puso presión a Sudáfrica y que tuvo más iniciativa  que Nueva Zelanda para ser semifinalista. Lo que cuenta es que los Pumitas tras  un primer tiempo de alta intensidad, y aguantaron la embestida para conquistar las semifinales por tercera vez en la historia de los Mundiales  Juveniles. En un miércoles de las conclusiones sorprendentes, los All  Blacks  Júniors, se quedaron  afuera  porque nunca entraron en partido, y sucumbieron ante unos Júniors Springboks, con mejor despliegue  a todo campo y no obstante las tres tarjetas amarillas que tuvieron que resignar. Para Argentina  es la tercera vez que entran en semifinales: en Sudáfrica 2012 fueron cuartos y en Inglaterra 2016 fueron terceros.  Esas escuadras tenían jugadores de jerarquía y personalidad, como en los casos del Mundial Sudáfrica 2012, donde destacaron los cordobeses Gonzalo Ruíz, Rodolfo Ambrosio, Joaquín Paz, Lautaro Casado Sandri, Felipe Nougués, Gaspar Oberti,  Rodrigo Parada Heit, el santiagueño Facundo Isa, y el mendocino Matías Díaz,  y donde ganaron a los Wallabies Júniors 15-3 en el Danie Craven Stadium de Stellenbosch . A la vez que en el Mundial de Inglaterra 2016 disputado en Manchester, las figuras fueron los cordobeses Juan Cruz Mallía (el capitán), Lautaro Bazán Vélez, Ignacio Calás, Franco Molina, Santiago Pulella, Conrado Roura, y el tucumano Domingo Miotti, entre otros.
