La tercera fue la vencida. Tras dos derrotas locales, Los Jaguares ganaron a los Waikato Chiefs por 21-16 (8-10), y con ello son semifinalistas por primera vez en el IV Super Rugby, y enfrentarán el próximo viernes a las 20:00 hrs, en el mismo Estadio del Club Vélez Sársfield al ganador entre los australianos de ACT Brumbies y los sudafricanos de Natal Sharks. Fue una dura batalla para  la selección provincial argentina (ya que de eso se trata, de un torneo que convoca selecciones provenientes de las Uniones Provinciales de Australia, Nueva Zelanda y Sudáfrica, más un representativo japonés que depende de la Unión Japonesa, como en el caso argentino), que se coronó con apretada victoria. Es que los Waikato Chiefs que llegaron al desafío como los séptimos en la clasificación general de las tres conferencias (australiana, neozelandesa y sudafricana), pero con la moral por las nubes tras victorias impresionantes sobre las Crusaders en Hamilton por 40-27 y frente a los Rebels por 59-8 en Melbourne, hicieron valer su levantada. Además, los Chiefs que fueron campeones en dos torneos (2012 y 2013), tuvieron a tres All Blacks en gran performance como el segunda línea Brodie Retallick, el flanker y capitán Same Cane, y el centro Anton Lienert Brown. Ellos encabezaron el juego desplegado del segundo tiempo a partir del scrum, pero encontraron férrea defensa argentina con el cambio de jugadores en el pack. Por eso es más significativa ésta victoria que le abre un camino sin precedentes a los Jaguares,  ya que se palpita una final con los bicampeones Canterbury Crusaders,  que abrieron la jornada de cuartos de final ganando con un contundente 38-14 a los Otago Highlanders en el clásico del sur neozelandés disputado en el Orange Theory Stadium de Christchurch. Para los Jaguares marcaron 2 Tries, el flanker porteño Pablo Matera, y el wing porteño Matías Moroni, más 3 Penales y 1 Conversión del apertura porteño  Joaquín  Diaz Bonilla. Para los Waikato Chiefs, 1 Try del flanker Lachlan Boshier, más 2 Penales  y 1 Conversión del apertura Jack Debreczeni, y 1 Penal del apertura suplente Marty McKenzie. La  semifinal  se jugarán el próximo viernes a las 20hs, en Vélez Sársfield, donde los Jaguares en enfrentarán al ganador de Brumbies vs Sharks en el Gio Stadium de Canberra. Lo que cuentas es que el rugby argentino tiene a su equipo entre los mejores cuatro del Súper Rugby.
