Italia enfrentará a los Pumas el 11 de junio en el estadio Estadio ‘’Brigadier General Estanislao López’’ del club Colón en ciudad de Santa Fe, sin sus argentinos, lo anunció el nuevo entrenador,  el irlandés Conor O'Shea, reemplazante del francés Jacques Brunel. Eliminada en primera fase clasificatoria en la VIII Copa Mundial de Inglaterra 2015 y con enésima Cuchara de Madera (último) en Seis Naciones 2016, Italia se presenta en Argentina con 3 sudafricanos, 1 australiano, 1 canadiense, 1 albanés, y 1 escocés.

Además, Conor O’Shea que viene acompañado por el sudafricano Mike Catt, que jugó para Inglaterra y donde fue entrenador asistente del técnico Stuart Lancaster,  incorporó un jugador de origen congolés y otro de procedencia nigeriana. Faltan a la cita el octavo platense Sergio Parisse, el centro mendocino Gonzalo García,  y el pilar derecho paranaense Martín Castrogiovanni , que disputaron la 17 edición del Seis Naciones 2016,  bajo la conducción de Jacques Brunel y Luigi Troiani. Los extranjeros: sudafricanos Quintin Geldenhuys (segunda línea), y  Abraham Jurgen Steyn -Andries van Schalkwyk (flankers), Luke  McLean (full back australiano), Robert Julian Barbieri  (flanker canadiense), Tommaso Allan (apertura escocés) y Ornel Gega (hoocker albanés). El plantel de 30 jugadores, cuenta con el flanker Maxime Mata Mbanda, de origen congolés y el full back David Odiete, de procedencia nigeriana. No fueron convocados Kelly Haimona, apertura neozelandés, ni Joshua Furno, segunda línea australiano.
