Sin el capitán y goleador Gastón Revol, ni el ball-carrier Conrado Roura,
los Pumas 7s se derrumbaron en el Seven de Singapur la 8va etapa del Circuito Mundial
de Seven 2017/2018, cayendo sin atenuantes en ronda clasificatoria, en cuartos de
final del Trophy y finalmente por el 13º lugar ante Japón.
El plantel entrenado por el porteño Santiago Gómez Cora y el tucumano Leandro
Garavano, culminó en última posición (14º
) la aventura por Singapur. Con 5 derrotas y 1 triunfo (ante Rusia), y de ser 4º
pasó a 7º en el circuito mundial, por detrás
de Australia, Estados Unidos y Kenia.
Ahora viene un mes de descanso reparador pare la recta final que lleva al título, comenzando con el Seven
de Londres entre el 2 y 3 de junio donde Argentina cayó en la ‘’zona de la muerte’’,
el grupo A con Nueva Zelanda (3º ), Fidji (1º ), que son candidatos al título y Escocia (10º ).
Con una escuadra de muchos debutantes, el capitán Germán Schulz como el
subcapitán Lautaro Bazán Vélez y el experimentado Luciano González Rizzoni,
fueron batidos por Canadá (26-14), Samoa
(31-14), Sudáfrica (26-12), Estados Unidos (36-12), ganó a Rusia (12-7) y perdió con Japón (31-24).
Por el Grupo B jugarán Australia, España, Gales y el equipo 16° de la
clasificación, en el Grupo C Inglaterra, Kenia, EE.UU. y Francia y en el D
Sudáfrica, Samoa, Canadá y Rusia.
La Serie Mundial de Seven es
encabezada por Fidji con 145 puntos, Sudáfrica 141, Nueva Zelanda
120, Australia 108, Estados Unidos y Kenia 93, Argentina 92 pts. Luego de Londres se disputará la última etapa en París entre el 9 y 10 de
junio.
Fidji obtuvo 4 de siete torneos y los últimos tres consecutivos: Singapur,
Hong Kong y Vancouver. Estados Unidos ganó en Las Vegas (a Los Pumas en la
