Con la Cuchara de Madera al hombro tras el último lugar del V Rugby Championship 2016, no hay pausas para los Pumas ya que llega en noviembre la gira por Japón y por la Gran Bretaña en el otoño-invierno europeo. Con la premisa de mejorar en la concentración, en las destrezas individuales, y en rendimiento físico tanto en fase defensiva como en clave ofensiva, el plantel entrenado por Daniel Hourcade, apenas tiene tiempo para un suspiro de alivio y enseguida a preparar el combate con el huso horario entre Asia y Europa.

El pasado sábado los Pumas dominaron a los Wallabies en posesión como en dominio territorial, pero los oceánicos aprovecharon oportunidades que tuvieron como dos tries de intercepción para diferencias determinantes debido a falta de concentración y determinación en marcar de la escuadra argentina. Por lo que ahora no hay margen de error para Argentina que se derrumbó al 9* lugar del ránking mundial  por lo que espera remontar la pendiente al 5* lugar en búsqueda de una mejor ubicación para el sorteo de mayo 2017,  de los grupos de la IX Copa Mundial de Japón  2019. Es decir, el objetivo es ganar los cuatro encuentros comenzando ante los Brave Blossoms japoneses el 5 de noviembre en Tokio, para seguir el 12 de noviembre frente a Gales en Cardiff, contra Escocia el 19 de noviembre en Cardiff y el 26 de noviembre cerrando la gira frente a Inglaterra en Londres. Según Daniel Hourcade, “Necesitamos madurar y esa madurez llega con el juego por lo que seguiremos trabajando en este nivel ya que una distracción, un error mínimo, te cuesta puntos en contra. Pudimos haber ganado, y estamos calientes porque todos sabemos que debimos haberlo hecho”. Para el segunda línea cordobés Matías Alemanno: “Fuimos irregulares y si sos irregular en este nivel, te matan. Hicimos un buen rugby, dominamos, pero nos quedamos tristes por el score ya que merecimos ganar, pero no se nos dio y ahora, a descansar y pensar en lo que hay que corregir’’.  ‘’Nos queda mucho por arreglar: la defensa y la irregularidad hay que solucionarlas. El ritmo en los 80’  lo tenemos, el juego también, pero lo que nos falta, con trabajo, se puede conseguir. Queda camino por recorrer aún”, sentenció la torre de URCA. A la vez que el medio scrum porteño Tomás Cubelli expresó: “Creo que nunca terminamos de hacer pie. Si bien nos mantuvimos en partido, nos marcaron puntos por errores nuestros y siendo autocríticos, nos impacientamos y cometimos errores’’. Para puntualizar: ‘’Tenemos que trabajar de la cabeza, porque el balance es que en el juego hubo cosas buenas, pero nos propusimos ganar dos partidos y sólo ganamos uno. Como equipo y como grupo si queremos seguir escalando, con lo que hicimos, no alcanza”.
