Los Queensland Reds se enfrentarán a
los ACT Brumbies en la final del Super Rugby Australiano el próximo sábado, tras
derrotar a los Melbourne Rebels por 25-13 (10-10) en semifinales en el Suncorp Stadium
de Brisbane. El choque del sábado 19 de septiembre en el Gio Stadium de
Canberra, proclamará al campeón.

Brad Thorn disputarán la primer final en siete años, poniendo toda su defensa
para frenar la embestida de los Rebels que presionaron hasta lo imposible hasta
el minuto 74 cuando al pilar derecho Taniela Tupou se le ocurrió la jugada
ganadora, rematada por el wing Filipo Daugunu.
Fue la primera final en casa de los
Reds desde 2012 y presentaron su regreso
como pesos pesados del rugby australiano tras un período largo y doloroso.
Thorn ha convertido a un pequeño equipo de los Reds en uno de los equipos
australianos del Super Rugby más emocionantes de esta década.
"Nos hemos dado una oportunidad,
que es todo lo que queríamos de esta noche, hay que seguir luchando y darnos la
oportunidad de alcanzar el triunfo la próxima semana, ya que el trabajo aún no
está hecho, pero es un buen comienzo", exclamó el flanker y capitán Liam
Wright.

Reds eliminate Rebels from Australian final against Brumbies
The
Queensland Reds will face the ACT Brumbies in the Australian Super Rugby final
next Saturday, after defeating the Melbourne Rebels 25-13 (10-10) in the
semi-finals at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane. The clash on Saturday 19 September
at the Gio Stadium in Canberra will proclaim the champion.
The
Reds trained by New Zealander Brad Thorn will play the first final in seven
years, putting all their defense to stop the onslaught of the Rebels who pushed
to the impossible until the 74th minute when right prop Taniela Tupou came up
with the winning play, finished off by wing Filipo Daugunu.
It
was the Reds' first home final since 2012 and they made their comeback as
Australian rugby heavyweights after a long and painful period. Thorn has turned
a small Reds team into one of the most exciting Australian Super Rugby teams of
this decade.
"We
have given ourselves an opportunity, which is all we wanted tonight, we must
continue fighting and give ourselves the opportunity to achieve victory next
week, since the work is not done yet, but it is a good start," he
exclaimed flanker and captain Liam Wright.
Australia's
new coach, New Zealander Dave Rennie, did not enjoy the Australian Super Rugby
playoff, after seeing Queensland Reds center, Jordan Petaia, Melbourne Rebels
full back and captain Dane Haylett-Petty and Rebels’s fly half Matt To'omua, injured.
