Tras una pandemia de Covid-19 que comenzó en marzo, los
Pumas 7s fueron Campeones del Seven Sudamericano de Chile, disputado en el Estadio Elías Figueroa Brander de Valparaíso, con victoria en la
final sobre Los Tupis de Brasil por 26-14. Por el tercer puesto Los Cóndores de
Chile, ganaron a Los Teros
de Uruguay 31-5.
En la primer competencia de Seven masculino 2020 en la región, el mayor exponente del juego reducido
como es el playmaker cordobés Gastón Revol, expresó: "Estamos muy agradecidos de haber jugado antes de fin de año después de tanto
tiempo. Somos privilegiados todos los que participamos
en un gran fin de semana de
competencia".
"En lo deportivo, faltan ajustar
cosas, si bien hemos podido hacer un buen trabajo. El objetivo de este torneo
era empezar a ganar ritmo de juego y en eso, está el objetivo cumplido. Las conclusiones reales y la evaluación
la haremos más adelante, cuando empecemos a trabajar ya si, con la vista puesta
en los objetivos del 2021", sentenció Revol.
Argentina, a pesar de la derrota ante
Brasil el primer día, en la jornada final y
por el título, puso de relieve su superioridad. En el plantel argentino,
destacaron los cordobeses Gastón Revol, Lautaro Bazán Vélez, Germán Schulz y el
debutante Julián Quetglas Bojar.
El capitán de Brasil,
Moisés Duque, dijo: "Estamos orgulloso por la región, que organizó un torneo y cuando se
hace responsablemente todo, el resultado deportivo queda un poco de lado en
este contexto de trabajo grupal que es lo que hay que destacar por encima de
todo".
Según Felipe Brangier, capitán de Chile, "Estuvimos
afortunados y contentos de poder competir
cuando sabemos de las dificultades que hay en el mundo hoy en día. Nos sentimos
responsables de que todo haya salido bien, que se cumplió como se ideó. Cuando el deporte se lo propone y cumple los protocolos,
las cosas se pueden hacer".
Chile, se pone metas para el próximo repechaje para los JJOO de Tokio en julio-agosto de 2021, y como lo expresó Edmundo
Olfos, entrenador de Los Cóndores,
"el equipo tiene un recambio y por
lo demás, no es lo mismo
entrenar que jugar tras el parate por la pandemia’.
Koba Brazionis, capitán de Uruguay, resaltó: "Fue volver a jugar, fue muy
lindo, considerando el entorno. Nos tocó perder, pero quiero destacar el nivel de los
rivales, todos equipos muy experimentados con jugadores consagrados y que van
a jugar a los JJOO o al repechaje.
Fue complicado, pero aún así disfrutamos de haber podido enfrentarlos".
El
tryman de los Pumas 7s, el tucunano Mateo Carreras, fue elegido el MVP del certamen, señalando
que "El premio es de todo el equipo. Es
100% virtud de ellos. sabíamos que eran difíciles los rivales y no te podés relajar nunca. Por lo
que vamos creciendo sin prisa y sin pausa.

El sábado, Chile empató con Brasil 12-12, y luego Argentina superó a Uruguay 53-0. Luego
en el clásico, Chile ganó a Uruguay por

Y el domingo, Los Pumas ganaron a Los Cóndores de

La Copa de Bronce, quedó en manos de Chile
que derrotó a Uruguay por 31-5.
