Córdoba en la final anticipada del 73º  Campeonato Argentino de Mayores 2017, cedió el tercer título consecutivo a Buenos Aires, tras caer por 30-29 (17-26), en su feudo del Tala RC en Villa Warcalde. El próximo sábado en la quinta y última fecha Córdoba visitará a Salta.

Fue la máxima cita del rugby nacional de siempre, con los Dogos y las Águilas buscando imponer su ritmo con apoyo de tries en batalla  sin concesiones, y donde el ganador  en notale equilibrio de fuerzas mantuvo su concentración mental para llegar a consagrarse con determinación. Respecto al reglamento hay una enciclopedia, solo recordar  final del Nacional de Clubes entre Tala e Hindú del 29 de julio, donde una investigación de oficio no aplicó tarjeta roja al pilar porteño que golpeó aviesamente con cabezazo al cuello del full back cordobés a los 10’ de juego. Pero jugar con la tranquilidad de contar con el ‘’establishment’’ es un gran aliado más allá del arranque superlativo cordobés  con tries del octavo Manuel Garzón (3’, 9’) y del centro Santiago Tobal a pura potencia (14’, 28’), y con 4 conversiones del apertura Mauricio Brunetto. Fue dominio de los Dogos, aunque dejando grietas defensivas y las Águilas reaccionando al sofocar ese despliegue, obligando a cometer errores en la toma de decisiones y marcar con  Matías Freyre y conversión de Lucas Frana y que no pudo superar Mauricio Brunetto en el último intento a los palos. ‘’Se nos escapó dos partidos como ante Tucumán y Buenos Aires, donde ibamos ganando, pero hicimos lo mejor que pudimos formando un hermoso grupo por lo que vamos ahora a Salta a concluir lo más alto que se pueda  y donde no destacamos nosotros, sino el equipo en general’’, sentenció Juan Cruz Mallía. Según el entrenador Diego Ghiglione ‘’hay un sabor amargo, salvo en Tucumán, se estuvo a la altura porque si ganaba Córdoba estaba muy bien y Buenos Aires también es muy buen equipo,  pero  no hay reproches y Córdoba queda bien plantada en el juego después de éste gran partido’’. Sobre el futuro del Argentino de Mayores de no disputar la edición 74º en 2017, Diego Ghiglione puntualizó: ‘’Debe continuar, personalmente disfruto recorrer el país y jugar en  cada región donde se nota la  pertenencia, como Tucumán y Buenos Aires por ejemplo que ponen todo y  quieren jugarlo’’. 

Mientras que Marcelo Hernán Loffreda, asesor de selecciones en Unión de Buenos Aires, puso de relieve;  ’’Córdoba nos sorprendió, tomó la iniciativa en el primer tiempo marcando muchos puntos de diferencia y Buenos Aires fue calentando motores  lentamente y estamos contentos por esa reacción’’. En cuanto a la prosecución del Argentino de Mayores, Tano Loffreda resaltó: ‘’Debe seguir porque al Argentino lo hemos mamado desde siempre, fue y es un gran torneo muy competitivo, y fijarse como se están dando éstos resultados con marcadores ajustadísimos y hay un gran avance del juego en todas las provincias’’.
