A tres meses de comenzado éste trascendente 2018, el rugby argentino observa con suma atención a  los Pumas 7s , quintos en el Circuito Mundial de Seven 2017/2018, y que están dejando la vara muy alta a los Jaguares hundidos en el último escalón del Super Rugby 15, y a los Pumas que apuntan a 12 desafíos entre junio y noviembre. Los Pumas 7’s se fueron de Las Vegas en la quinta etapa del circuito mundial en su segunda  final, perdiendo contra Estados Unidos por 28-0. 

Fue la segunda en cinco etapas del Circuito Mundial 2017/2018, cayendo en Ciudad del Cabo en diciembre frente  a Nueva Zelanda por 38-14. Ahora viene Vancouver. Para llegar hasta la definición, los Pumas 7s.  capitaneados por Gastón Revol, debieron emplearse al máximo en el aspecto físico contra Sudáfrica, el campeón saliente y a quién  no ganaban desde 2013 y lo hicieron por 12-10 para clasificar a la final ante el anfitrión Estados Unidos, que  tuvo mayor rendimiento atlético. Ahora el plantel encabezado por Gastón Revol, Lautaro Bazán Vélez, Conrado Roura,  Luciano González Rizzoni y Maximiliano Filizzola encabezando la nueva generación, se prepara a debutar en el grupo B, el sábado  frente a Samoa  a las 16:20, y después  ante Gales a las 19:52, para concluir con Inglaterra a las 23:24.  Luego de Vancouver llegará la etapa en el Pacífico Sur en abril con los seven de  Hong Kong (6/8), y Singapur (9/10),  y en junio se concluirá con Londres (2/3) y París (9/10), para  poner a punto a los pretendientes del Mundial de Seven, de  julio en San Francisco, Estados Unidos. Con  19 puntos en Las Vegas, Los Pumas 7s suman 67 y siguen en la quinta posición del ranking, que encabezan los Blitz Boks sudafricanos campeones salientes, con 92 puntos, seguidos por Nueva Zelanda con 82, Fidji el campeón mundial saliente con 79 y Australia con 72. 

El Canadá Sevens será el sexto de 10 torneos en el World Rugby Sevens Series 2019/2018. Hasta la fecha, la serie ha producido cinco ganadores diferentes: Sudáfrica (Dubai), Nueva Zelanda (Ciudad del Cabo), Australia (Sidney), Fidji (Hamilton) y Estados Unidos (Las Vegas).
