Es tiempo de verano y tiempo de sevens, más que nada en el hemisferio sur, que se prepara a dos desafíos como son las dos primeras etapas del Circuito Mundial 2017/2018 en el nuevo año: Sydney en Australia (26/28  de enero), y Hamilton (reemplaza a Wellington) en Nueva Zelanda (3 y 4 de febrero).

Por lo que los Pumas 7s comenzaron la pretemporada en Pinamar (playa atlántica) con determinación y contando con su quinteto cordobés a partir del capitán Gastón Revol y siguiendo con Fernando Luna (ambos recuperados) y el trío formado por Lautaro Bazán Vélez, Conrado Roura y Luciano González Rizzoni. Ese trío fue protagonista determinante en la última etapa del 2017  en la de Ciudad del Cabo en Sudáfrica donde llegaron a la final de oro, perdiendo ante los All Blacks y escalando al  quinto lugar del circuito con 24 puntos, por detrás solamente de Nueva Zelanda (41), Sudáfrica (39), Fidji (28) e Inglaterra (27). Lautaro Bazán Vélez, el líder, resaltó: ‘’La verdad es que somos conscientes del momento en que estamos parados y de aquí para arriba,  todo viene cuando respetamos el  juego, y el sistema de  los entrenadores. En la final con 14-0 abajo ante los All Blacks, metimos una jugada y exploté el hueco y fui’’. ‘’Son momentos que nos quedan marcados como algo inolvidable. Al ser baja Gastón (Revol), un conductor, fuimos suplantando su lugar y por suerte las cosas se dieron bien y tras ésta pretemporada en Pinamar,  apuntamos a mejorar para Sydney’’, expresó el medio scrum del Córdoba Athletic. Aunque siempre está presente la performance del sur sudafricano: ‘’Con ésta determinación  los resultados van a venir,  como se logró en Cape Town tras Dubai,  donde no estuvimos muy bien, y en la final en Sudáfrica con los All Blacks, todo el público  nos hizo el aguante, firmando autógrafos a todos’’. ‘’Somos un equipo joven pero no se nota mucho ya que cada uno sabe lo que tiene que hacer y cada uno deja todo’’, dice Lauti a sus 21 años, el estratega del equipo, pero risueñamente agrega que es  ‘’el playmaker’’   del equipo. Sobre Luciano González Rizzoni (20), y Conrado Roura (21),  Lautaro Bazán Vélez desde su experiencia internacional (fue capitán de Pumitas M20 medalla de Plata en Juegos Olímpicos Juveniles de Nanjing 2014) dijo: ‘’Lucho tiene que seguir afianzando su juego,  y Conra es tremendo, un espectáculo’’.

Precisamente Luciano González Rizzoni, que sorprendió propios y extraños con try coast to coast en Cape Town, nos expresó: ‘’Tuvimos una pausa para descansar la cabeza, ya que no hay que regalar nada a esta altura del partido y  trabajamos duro en pretemporada de Pinamar pensando en Sydney’’.

 ‘’Estamos motivados por  lo que hicimos en Cape Town y poner ganas para acercarnos a los primeros. Estar quintos, es  muy lindo porque es un sacrificio que vinimos buscando, y ver cómo nos apoyan, debemos dar todo  hasta el final del circuito  y  hasta el mundial’’ enfatizó Lucho. Sobre el plantel donde se integró el mendocino Máximo Filizzola, Lucho matizó: ‘’Hay jugadores para recambio que son muy buenos como Lauti, Conra que me encantan como juegan y que son referentes como Gaston (Revol) y Fer (Luna) que  ya los tenemos recuperados y se agrega Maxi con mucho entusiasmo’’.

Los Pumas 7s integrarán en Sydney, la zona B junto a Francia, Gales y Kenia, en lo que a priori, parece una zona pareja pero no imposible para ir en busca de la clasificación a los cuartos de final de la Copa de Oro. Nueva Zelanda, ganador en Cape Town, estará en grupo A con Fidji, Samoa y Rusia. Sudáfrica, se medirá con Inglaterra, España y el equipo invitado en la Zona C. Y completan Canadá, Estados Unidos, Australia y Escocia en zona D.
