Ya alcanzó al “flanker” Richie McCaw y al full back Mils Muliaina. A partir del sábado en ocasión del tercer desafío por la Bledisloe Cup 2012, que se disputará en Brisbane entre los Wallabies y los All Blacks, el hoocker Keven Mealamu llegará a cuota 100 “caps”. Es decir, Mc Caw, Muliaina y Mealamu, son los tres únicos neozelandeses que han perforado la histórica estadística de vestir en 100 ocasiones la camiseta negra con la hoja de helecho plateada y bordada en el flanco izquierdo.

Por eso en el Suncorp Stadium de Brisbane (noreste de Australia), tendrá lugar para Keven Mealamu a sus 33 años, un gran acontecimiento en ocasión de disputarse el tercer encuentro del mar de Tasmania, por un trofeo ya ganado por los All Blacks que se impusieron en los anteriores dos choques por la Rugby Championship (Sydney  27-19  y Auckland 22-0).

Para ésta oportunidad del sábado, el entrenador de los All Blacks, Steve Hansen (que viene de perder a su padre fallecido el pasado martes, pero que va a estar presente en Australia), confirmó a Mealamu como titular en la primera línea que se completa con Charlie Faumuina (en lugar de Owen Franks) y Tony Woodcock.

Nueva Zelanda flamante campeón del primer Rugby Championship, se prepara con éste test ante Australia para iniciar su gira europea en la ventana de noviembre, donde debutará ante Escocia el 11 de noviembre en el “Murrayfield” de Edimburgo, para luego proseguir el “warm-up” en el “Olímpico” de Roma ante los “Azzurri” de Italia el 17 de noviembre.

La situación más compleja para los discípulos de Stefe Hansen, se verificará el 24 de noviembre en el “Millennium” de Cardiff, donde acechan los Dragones Rojos de Gales, últimos campeones del 6 Naciones. Finalmente el 1° de diciembre en el templo de “Twickenham”, tendra lugar la despedida ante los blancos de la Rosa de los Tudor: Inglaterra.

Homenaje del rugby a 40 años de la Tragedia de los Andes. Un canto a la vida.

Hay momentos en la vida que uno recuerda cada año con unción momentos ocurridos ya hace 40 años, recordando al colega y amigo uruguayo Ceibal Regules, prestigioso periodista del Diario El País de Montevideo, a quién conozco desde el Campeonato Sudamericano de 1977. Hoy es más fuerte la emoción ya que se cumplieron cuarenta años de aquella Tragedia de los Andes, cuando el Fokker de la Fuerza Aérea uruguaya que transportaba  45 personas (40 pasajeros y 5 tripulantes) a bordo, se estrelló  el 13 de octubre de 1972.

 

A 4.500 metros de altitud y 15 grados bajo cero, dieciséis hombres sobrevivieron y se apiñaban contra la carlinga  del pequeño bimotor  y estuvieron más de 2 meses perdidos en la Cordillera de los Andes. La suya fue una historia de lucha y ganas de vivir que sigue conmoviendo hoy a todos, particularmente al ambiente del rugby mundial. El avión transportaba al equipo uruguayo de rugby del «Old Christians» a Santiago de Chile, donde debía enfrentarse al «Old Boys».

 

Hoy 15 de los 16 supervivientes  recordaron el aniversario entregando  una camiseta similar a la que usaban en 1972 al presidente chileno Sebastián Piñera, y firmada por ellos para agradecer a Chile el papel que tuvo en su «milagro». Fernando “Nando” Parrado, segunda línea de la escuadra, agradecido por el rescate, consideró que la historia de su triunfo sobre la adversidad «dejó un gran legado», además de una enorme «lección de vida». Subrayando: “Recuerdo que volvimos y esa gran aceptación y perdón de toda la gente que nos recibió y nos reintegró a la sociedad, después de lo que habíamos hecho y lo que nos había pasado”. “Pudimos integrarnos, y lo que tenemos que hacer es agradecer que ahora somos veteranos con nietos», señaló también Adolfo Strauch.

 

Quedan como imágenes inolvidable las prendas de abrigo fabricadas con forros de asientos, improvisados  anteojos para protegerse del resplandor de la nieve y cartas de quienes no lograron sobrevivir. Son recuerdos de  protagonistas  y conocido mundialmente como la Tragedia y milagro de los Andes. Aquel día comenzó para ellos una lucha por la supervivencia que se prolongó durante 72 largos días de temperaturas bajo cero, hambre y desesperación; hasta que fueron rescatados en helicóptero después de que dos de ellos, Nando Parrado y Roberto Canessa, caminaron durante diez días hasta un poblado chileno y lograron dar el aviso a través del arriero chileno Sergio Catalán que hoy tiene 90 años y se reencontró con Nando Parrado, su interlocutor de 40 años atrás, comunicándose a los gritos  a través de un río que los separaba.

 

A la alegría del reencuentro le siguió una agria polémica, ya que ellos sobrevivieron alimentándose de sus compañeros fallecidos.  Cuarenta años después, los dieciséis supervivientes recordaron el aniversario en Santiago, donde agradecieron la ayuda y acogida que recibieron tras su rescate. Como ya hicieran hace diez años, jugaron el partido  que se suspendió en 1972, aunque ya son hombres sesentones.  Recordando pasajes de la hazaña que asombró al mundo, los sobrevivientes del Accidente de Los Andes en 1972 participaron de la  Conmemoración de los 40 años del suceso, cuyo evento central tuvo lugar el pasado sábado en el Old Grangonian Club en Chicureo, con la disputa de la Copa de La Amistad, entre Old Boys de Chile y Old Christians de Uruguay.

 

En la oportunidad estuvieron presentes 15 miembros del equipo Old Christians de 1972, cuyo vuelo charter que los trasladaba a Chile - donde iban a jugar ante Old Boys . “Para nosotros es un orgullo estar presentes y que se realice esta conmemoración durante 40 años ininterrumpidos. Expresamos nuestra gratitud con Old Boys y con el pueblo chileno,” expresó Gustavo Zerbino, uno de los sobrevivientes del accidente del avión FH-227 de la Fuerza Aérea Uruguaya .

MOMENTOS DE GRAN EMOCIÓN

Momentos de emoción se vivieron con la llegada a la sala del reencuentro entre el arriero Sergio Catalán, hoy con 90 años de edad, quien encontró a Roberto Canessa y Nando Parrado en el final de su expedición de 10 días, en la cual cruzaron la cordillera en su zona central. Todos expresaron su cariño y alegría por volver a ver a la persona que fue clave en el operativo que fue desplegado por el Servicio de Búsqueda y Salvamento para rescatarlos desde el macizo andino.  “Para mí la amistad con el colegio y el club (The Grange School y Old Boys), es algo que debemos mantener por siempre. Esto habla de lo que es la hermandad, la amistad que une un deporte tan lindo como el Rugby. Para mí esto es un verdadero testimonio de vida el cual se debe transmitir de generación en generación,” indicó el también sobreviviente Álvaro Mangino.  También los jugadores históricos de Old Boys expresaron su alegría de recibir a Old Christians en esta histórica conmemoración. Así lo expresó el ex full back Francisco Planella.  “Son 40 años de una amistad que crece cada vez más. Es algo único en el mundo. Me ha tocado estar - Gracias a Dios - en todas las Copas de la Amistad a los largo de estos 40 años, y ahora tengo a mi hijo Francisco que juega por Old Boys. Cada vez esta amistad crece y nuestros hijos adquieren esta experiencia.” El grupo de rugbistas uruguayos también fue recibido en  audiencia privada por  el Presidente de la República de Chile, Sebastián Piñera en el Palacio de La Moneda.

ARGENTINA Y AUSTRALIA EN APASIONANTE FINAL

Argentina y Australia festejaron su encuentro N° 19 en su historial, estrechando vínculos en la primera confrontación anual  del ,máximo cuadrangular del Hemisferio Sur. Australia ganó una crucial victoria el pasado sábado por 25-18 y Argentina completó una performance en pleno progreso. Las Cuatro Naciones 2012 van a una pausa hasta el próximo año y mientras tanto sus integrantes ya planifican su final de temporada con las confrontaciones  de noviembre en el Hemisferio Norte.

Los Wallabies terminaron por delante de los Springboks  en la tabla del Rugby Championship  gracias a  las 3 victorias con  3 derrotas, contra 2 victorias, 1 empate y 3 derrotas de los sudafricanos. A la vez que los All Blacks fueron campeones invictos con 6 victorias en 6 encuentros sumando 26 puntos por 12 de Australia y Sudáfrica y 4 de Argentina.

Pero además Australia recuperó  el segundo lugar en el escalafón mundial desplazando a Sudáfrica del puesto de escolta del líder absoluto Nueva Zelanda. Ahora el ranking IRB muestra a Nueva Zelanda líder con 93.35 por delante de Australia con 85.92 y Sudáfrica que cuenta con 84.69. Más atrás se ubican Inglaterra con 83.09, Francia 83.03, Gales 82.26, Irlanda 79.85, y Argentina en octava posición con 78.63.

Esta ubicación es importante mejorarla en la ventana de noviembre donde los Pumas enfrentarán a Gales, Francia e Irlanda, buscando tener buena posición al 3 de diciembre cuando tenga lugar el sorteo en Londres de los grupos de clasificación para el mundial Inglaterra 2015

Argentina en su primera participación al torneo de mayor prestigio en el hemisferio sur, no tuvo  victorias, pero sí  un empate ante Sudáfrica (16-16); y  Australia bajo presión de los críticos por  actuaciones muy mediocres, ganó con su estrella el wing Digby Ioanne que salvó los muebles en varios partidos del 4N.

El entrenador neocelandés Robbie Deans fue reivindicado en la selección australiana frente a una serie interminable de lesionados para asumir el desafío ante Argentina. Y el hombre del partido fue el novato full back y pateador Michael Harris que convirtió 20 puntos ante Los Pumas, incluidos cinco en la primera mitad para poner por delante Australia 15-9 al descanso.

Para el segunda línea y capitán Nathan Sharpe "La cancha fue muy pequeña para  las diensiones  que estamos acostumbrados jugar y la pelota era más húmeda de la que imaginábamos. Además en mi carrera, nunca ví a una multitud tan hostil, pero por suerte cumplimos con nuestro trabajo".

Está claro que los Wallabies aprovecharon la indisciplina de Los Pumas para que el goleador debutante Mike Harris convirtiera 6 de 7 penales factibles; mientras que Los Pumas, que soñaban con conseguir un primer éxito  se quedaron en búsqueda de inspiración ante el público s de Rosario. Pero al final llegó la gloria para el ídolo local, el wing Juan Imhoff que anotó ´con  vigor el ensayo del honor (76´).

Fue la despedida del histórico pilar Rodrigo Roncero quién a sus 35 años y con 55 selecciones en 14 años de carrera internacional decidió despedirse y decir adiós. Y la continuidad del entrenador Santiago Phelan que anticipó que seguirá trabajando en la preparación de la exigente temporada 2013.

ARGENTINA AND AUSTRALIA IN THRILLING FINAL

Argentina and Australia celebrated its meeting No. 19 in its history, closer ties in the first annual confrontation, homer maximum Southern Hemisphere. Australia won a crucial victory last Saturday 25-18 and Argentina completed a performance in full progress. The Four Nations 2012 will pause until next year and meanwhile its members and plan their season finale with confrontations on November in the Northern Hemisphere.

The Wallabies finished ahead of the Springboks in the Rugby Championship table thanks to 3 wins with 3 losses, against 2 wins, 1 draw and 3 defeats South Africans. While the All Blacks were undefeated champions with six wins in six games by adding 26 points to 12 from Australia and South Africa and 4 in Argentina.

But besides Australia regained second place in the world rankings since moving to South Africa's absolute leader escort New Zealand. Now the IRB ranking shows New Zealand leader with 93.35 ahead of Australia and South Africa with 85.92 with 84.69. Pumas vs Wallabies in a rematch flavored blue and white first win

After ten years of absence in Argentina, the Wallabies will be presented tomorrow to face the Pumas in the "Gigante de Arroyito" Stadium of Rosario, seeking victory in a rematch where concludes the sixth stage of the inaugural Rugby Championship 2012.

It will be the 19th test in history between Pumas and Wallabies with four wins in Argentina in 1979, 1983, 1987 and 1997, with thirteen aussie victories. The last time in Argentina Australia won 17-6 on november 2, 2002. Now Argentina's net favoritism.

Head Coach Santiago Phelan repeats the initial XV that lost to New Zealand by 54-15, a week ago at the "Único" Stadium of La Plata City. To the bench, returning the "flanker" Leonardo Senatore and first-five-eight Nicolás Sánchez. No news for the full back / wing Martín Bustos Moyano.

Australia coached by New Zealander Robbie Deans arrives with troops badly injured after conclusive defeat wedged against the Springboks (31-8) on Saturday at the "Loftus Versfeld" of Pretoria. And weight with injuries: including the full back Berrick Barnes and centerAdam Ashley-Cooper.

Knowing inferiority, Robbie Deans (who fears the Argentine scrum) made five changes to the starting XV and put all the meat on the grill in the forward pack with Sitaleki Timani as "flanker" in the blind side, and prop James Slipper by the left of the front row.

In the rear is Mike Harris at fullback for the injured Berrick Barnes and will be the kicker, while Ben Tapuai replace Ashley-Cooper in the center of the attack. In the fourth round of the "Skilled Park" in Gold Coast, Australia beat Argentina by 23-19 (3-6) last September 15.

While the Wallabies are discarded in the first place, a rematch with the Pumas have relevance to defend the third place in the IRB rankings. What is clear is that it will be a tough battle in Rosario, where the Pumas want to close the first annual competition to assume, with the clear objective of winning the tug.

The Wallabies will play their final domestic Test of 2012 against the All Blacks at Suncorp Stadium of Brisbane on Saturday 20 October before flying out for Europe on Saturday 3 November, for the autumnal window.

Pumas vs Wallabies en revancha con sabor a primer triunfo albiceleste

Tras diez años de ausencia en Argentina, los Wallabies se presentarán mañana enfrentando a los Pumas en el “Gigante de Arroyito” de Rosario, buscando el triunfo en una revancha donde concluye con la sexta jornada la primera edición del Rugby Championship 2012.

Será el 19° test en la historia entre Pumas y Wallabies con cuatro victorias argentinas en 1979, 1983, 1987 y 1997, con un empate y trece victorias de los Wallabies. La última vez en Argentina hubo triunfo de Australia por 17-6 el 2 de noviembre de 2002. Ahora hay neto favoritismo argentino.

Para el entrenador bonaerense Santiago Phelan se repite el 15 inicial que cayó ante Nueva Zelanda por 54 a 15, hace una semana en el “Único” de La Plata. Aunque los Wallabies están descartados del primer lugar, la revancha con los Pumas tiene la relevancia de defender el tercer lugar en el ranking IRB. Lo que está claro es que será una dura batalla en Rosario y donde Los Pumas quieren cerrar la primera competición anual que asumen, con el claro objetivo de ganar la pulseada.
