Recordando Gira a Nueva Zelanda 1979, con Pumas vs Taranaki en New Plymouth- Remembrances in New Zealand Tour
1979, with Pumas vs. Taranaki at New Plymouth
medio scrum David .Loveridge.
primer test-match frente a Nueva Zelanda XV en el legendario estadio Carisbrook de Dunedin, el sábado 8 de septiembre de 1979. Los equipos: Taranaki formó con: Davidson, B.Gould; M.Thomson, M, Watts, P.Wharehoka; P.Martin, y D.Loveridge;
E.Fleming, G.Mourie (capt.), y C.Cooper, I.Eliason, y J.Thwaites; B.Mc
Eldowney, F.O` Carroll, y J.Mc.Eldouney.
Argentina lo hizo con Eduardo Sanguinetti;
Marcelo Campo, Rafael Madero, Marcelo Loffreda, y Adolfo Cappelletti; Hugo Porta (capt.), y Alfredo Soares Gache;
Tomás Petersen, Ernesto Ure, y Roberto Lucke; Alejandro Iachetti, y Gabriel
Travaglini; Hugo Nicola, Javier Pérez Cobo, y Fernando Morel.
Remembrances in New Zealand Tour 1979, with Pumas vs. Taranaki
at New Plymouth
I remember with great excitement that September 4, 1979,
when the Pumas on their first New Zealand tour played their fifth unbeaten match,
against Taranaki at New Pluymouth's
Rugby Park stadium, now Yarrow Stadium, which on Saturday will be theater of dream
to All Blacks vs Pumas at in third round
of Rugby Championship 2017.
At distance of 38 years, Argentina returns to appear in
the mythical Rugby Park, winning to the selection of Taranaki by 19-9, with
tries of Marcelo Hernán Loffreda and of Alfredo Soares-Gache, plus 2 drops goals
of Hugo Porta and Rafael Madero, and 1 penalty goal and 1 conversion of Hugo Porta. Taranaki was one of the most sought-after provincial
teams with two top-level All Blacks including flanker Graham Mourie, his
captain (and All Blacks too) and scrum
half David Loveridge. Two great friends today. Was
that fifth provincials match of the tour after wins against Poberty Bay (26-3),
Auckland (18-13), Manawatu (21-10), and Bay of Plenty (32-12) and was a welcome
development as was
the prelude to the first test-match against New Zealand XV at the legendary
Dunedin Carisbrook Stadium on Saturday 8 September 1979.
